K.G. Jayan happened to meet Padmabhushan Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna during a torrential rain of music at Vaikkom Mahadevar temple. It was Mavelikkara Krishnankutty Nair who was playing Mridangam that day introduced Jayavijaya to the grand musical maestro as promising Karnatic vocalists. K.G. Jayan along with K.G. Vijayan took up Gurukula vasa, the ancient Indian style of learning at the mentor`s abode , for six years. K.G. Jayan served as music teacher in a government school in Kerala. But because of his irrepressible love for music he left the job and joined with the Master in the divine journey of music. He was also actively involved in the research on Music Therapy headed by the Master
